Part of Dorothy’s story takes place in Anzio, where a memorable campaign in the liberation of Italy towards the end of World War II took place. It is for this reason that Armistice Day has been chosen for the release date of Dog Dirt Doris.
Within the story there is reference to “doing your bit” an expression used by members of the Armed Forces to describe the contribution they made to the War effort. H.O.WARD realised the extent of "their bit" after his emotional visits to the memorial cemeteries of Anzio to pay his respects.
