London 1966
The story of Dog Dirt Doris, and in particular the period of Doris as the vagabond, revolves around Charring Cross railway station and the archways beneath the rail lines between the station and the Thames Embankment.

Charring Cross Station

The Embankment
Though the archways of today are considerably different to those in the time that Doris experienced them, most of the places depicted in the story still retain their character of 1966 if you remove the modern façade.
The statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus for example was an island surrounded by a continuous flow of red London busses and black taxi cabs when Doris first climbed its steps but, with the exception of traffic flow, in essence it has not changed.

Eros
The Trafalgar Square of today still remains very much the same as it was in the period depicted in the story and even Leicester Square remains unchanged if you look behind its modern pretense.

The chapter ‘From the Author’ details a walk through the scenes of the story and the pictures presented here reflect the modern image. It is intended to show photographs of the story's period when they become available.
